What size HVAC system does my home need?

There is no one-size-fits-all heating and cooling solution for every home. Some important factors in determining the right size includes such things as square footage, geographic location, insulation, and ceiling height.

Here in southern Missouri, we are in zone 3 which is important in finding the right furnace size. This goes to help determine what the proper BTU will be needed. The SEER rating is an important factor in determining which cooling unit is the most energy-efficient for your home.

Determining what system is right for your home is the first step Jon Wayne Heating & Air takes when we handle any new installation. Our trained and experienced technicians have been installing new systems in homes and businesses across southeastern Missouri. We would be happy to discuss with you the particulars of your home and what new air conditioning system and/or new heating system is right for you.

Proper maintenance goes a long way in making sure your system is working at peak operation and will continue working for a long time. The best way to protect and prolong your home’s heating & cooling system is to replace your air filters frequently. If you have permanent filters, clean the air filters regularly.

You should also routinely get your ducts cleaned. Jon Wayne Heating & Air provide professional duct cleaning service to homes and businesses.

This is a common HVAC question, and it is one we are happy people ask! The standard recommendation is to change your air filter at least every 4 months. That is as long as you’ll want to wait between changings. But that is not sufficient for many homes and situations.

There are many factors that help determine how often you should change your air filter. Do you live alone? Do you have allergies? Do you have pets? The more situations that increase dirt and dust in your home and the more problems inhabitants have with such problems as allergies and asthma, you will want to change your filter every 3 months.

How old is your furnace? What is the cost of any repairs you are facing? At Jon Wayne Heating & Air, we don’t pressure anyone into buying a new heating or cooling system. If your old heating unit can be repaired and you decide that’s the better option for you, we can do that work. We provide professional repair work for both gas furnaces and electric heaters. We will work with you to make sure you understand the benefits and costs of all your options to help you determine what is right for you.

Ideally, you have a programmable thermostat so that your HVAC system is working only when it is needed. This is energy efficient and helps cut down on monthly bills. You should set the temperature for the times people are home to a comfortable setting. Generally, for the summer that is 75°. In the winter, the recommended temperature is 68°. Your specific needs and comfort levels may determine other temperatures may work better for you.

But if you are finding yourself having to set your thermostat beyond these ranges most often, there may be a problem. Your system may not be adequately heating and cooling your home to normal temperatures and wasting unnecessary energy to work harder to get the job done. You can contact Jon Wayne Heating & Air to handle HVAC maintenance to see if there are any issues or problems keeping your system working as it should be.

There are many reasons why you could have room that is not getting as cool or as hot as the rest of your house. Sometimes simple fixes the homeowners can do themselves can remedy the problem. Make sure you don’t have closed vents or furniture or other items blocking the vents. Is too much sunlight getting into that room causing it to be too hot? If so, adding thick drapes may eliminate the problem. However, there could be other issues that aren’t so easy to fix. A professional HVAC company can address the variety of problems that could be causing this issue.

There are many heating & air solutions for controlling the temperature of a space. Jon Wayne Heating & Air provides services such as Heat Pump and Hybrid HVAC systems.

You should check that your outdoor unit is not dirty and covered with debris before turning it on for the summer season. A dirty or clogged condenser unit will not be as effective in cooling your home and can even cause the AC to stop working altogether.

We recommend having your air conditioner and heater professionally maintenance twice a year. Once in the Spring and once in the Fall.

Many of the maintenance steps your air conditioner needs are simple tasks you can do yourself and are worth trying before paying someone to handle the job. Read more about when to know it is time for an AC tune up.

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The SEER rating factors the quantity of energy your AC unit will need to operate. It is a ratio of how much cooling a system puts out for each unit of energy it consumes. The correct SEER Rating that is right for your home depends on a variety of factors including location and house size.

The SEER rating is something to consider when getting a new air conditioner. Read more about the other factors to consider when purchasing a new AC.
