Improve Air Quality Steps

The first step towards improving air quality in your home is to eliminate sources of pollution or to reduce their emissions. There are some sources that can be sealed or enclosed to decrease the number of emissions. Gas stoves, for instance, can be adjusted, and other sources that contain asbestos can be sealed so the air is cleaner. If you are looking for a cost-efficient approach, source control is a great way to protect indoor air quality.

The second approach is to improve ventilation and dealing with poor air quality by diluting the contaminant. This approach increases the amount of outdoor air coming indoors so it may not be the most effective. The air inside your home may be contaminated from exhaust from busy roadways or chemicals from nearby companies. This is not the most cost-effective approach and by increasing the usage of air condition or heating since you might be required to cool or heat the air more than before.

The third approach when source control and ventilation are not practical options is filtration. This is a great way to remove contaminants in the air. Most air filters are not created to filter out the fine particles from the air indoors, rather it protects occupants from large particles. If you are worried about harmful fine particles in the air you breathe, ensure that you find a filter or filtration device that is made and tested to remove fine particles. Jon Wayne Heating and Air has two types of filters we install. Pleated filters pull pollutants out of the air as the air flows through them and polarized filters allow tiny particles to pass through the heating and cooling system and they become polarized and join together with others to create large particles. Polarized air filters then attract these particles to effectively remove 97% of particles down to .3 microns in size.

The most efficient way to guarantee quality indoor air is to ensure that your furnace is up to date with a furnace replacement.
