- Change your air filters: we can’t stress how important changing your filters is. Frequently changing your air filters is one of the easiest ways to keep your HVAC system running smooth and will even help it run better for longer. If you don’t know how often to change filters, you can always check what the manufacturer of your system recommends, or, changing them at least every three months is also a good rule to follow. Doing so will ensure that your HVAC system continues to run efficiently.

Looking at all air conditioning vents and ducts will allow you to see if you need to repair anything and won’t lead to any surprises down the road. Broken, cracked, or leaving ducts can lead to costly repairs down the road, to do a visual check so you catch small problems before they become big ones. Turning on your AC and doing a test run will also help you determine if there is anything wrong with that aspect of your HVAC system.
- Clean around your outdoor unit: you never know what kind of debris could have collected around your outdoor AC unit, so once it warms up and the snow melts, make sure you go out and inspect and clean before running your AC. Rake and remove any debris, such as branches, leaves, or other material animals might have left behind throughout the winter. This is also something you need to maintain throughout the year and cut back any bushes or growth that may affect the efficiency of your AC unit.
